How Vibration Units Relate

Acceleration, velocity, and displacement are related through the vibration frequency. For sinusoidal motion at frequency f:

  • Velocity = Acceleration / (2πf)
  • Displacement = Velocity / (2πf) = Acceleration / (2πf)²

ISO 10816 Velocity Severity

For velocity-based severity assessment of rotating machinery (Class I — small machines up to 15 kW):

  • Good: < 1.8 mm/s RMS
  • Acceptable: 1.8–4.5 mm/s RMS
  • Alert: 4.5–11.2 mm/s RMS
  • Danger: > 11.2 mm/s RMS
